Her Last Death (pg 207-273)

Summary:
In these couple last chapters, Susanne is now married with Christopher, without anybody, and a wedding. They didn’t need any witness or officials. They now live in Montana. Sue is pregnant for the first time. She never had the responsibility to take care of herself. But now, she must take care of a new life. Sue and Christopher decided to go through abortion. Later, Susanne became pregnant once again. But, this time abortion or adoption wasn’t an option for them. Sue gave birth to a baby boy, Daniel. Two to three years later, she gave birth to another baby boy, Jack.

Susanne has matured throughout this book. Through out the book, she had adopted her mother’s ways of doing things. At the end of the book, the story goes back to the beginning of the chapter where Sue receives a phone call that informs her that her mother is in the hospital. When she goes to see her mother, she speaks to her sister and tells her that she regrets pushing her family away and not putting them first in her childhood.

Quote:
"I grieved. Didn't want to be awake because I thought about it. The loss was unbearable, and I felt certain that every future thing i longed for would be lost" (Sonnenberg, 223).

Reaction:
This passage stood out the most to me while reading. It shows the authors approach and emotions. The author is worried, scared, and anxious. She is concern about what will happen to her and her future. She is also afraid to lose everything she has. She realizes her true feelings, despite the constant issues in her life.

Her Last Death (pg 140-207)

Summary:

In the beginning of the chapter, sue is in college. She has finished her sophomore, junior, and senior year at the boarding her mom put her in for a better education. Now, sue is an adult. After her senior year in college, she moved out, and rented an apartment on her own. Susanna meets Christopher, her soon to be spouse, later in the book.
Quote:
“Be my guest at my unready apartment with its bed pushed beneath the eaves” (Sonnenberg, 204)
Reaction:
It is clear that the author wants the guest to come over her new apartment, but she is somewhat nervous. Regardless of the apartment, she still wants to receive the visit. She is straight forward with her thought. She doesn’t use any metaphors. She is ready, her apartment is a mess, but she doesn’t care. The author focus on what she wants to accomplish and that nothing else is relevant to her.

Her Last Death pg 80-140

Summary:
Its sue's birthday, and she turned 16. Her mother had purchased a house in Ranchos. For sue's birthday, her mother brought her to their favorite bar. After going to the bar, they attended a party, where sue's crush, Theo. Daphne had promised Sue to bring Theo home, as a birthday present. Well, Theo came to the sonnenberg resident, but it wasnt really to see sue. As sue fell asleep, Daphene walked Theo into her bedroom.

Quote:
"The pleasure slipped, and I felt caught, a thief with contraband" (Sonnenberg, 114)

Reaction:
The author uses three different clauses. Each phrase is powerful on its own, and they are no distant. Each section has a different tone. “The pleasure slipped”. This first part introduces the element of surprise; its brief, simple and to the point. “I felt caught”, in this statement supports the first, and immediately explains it. “A thief with contraband”, brings to us the inevitable. So, the quote as a whole is like an essay with an introduction, body, and conclusion.
The author uses the word “thief”, but she clearly hasn’t stolen anything. So, why does she use it? The word “thief” on itself isn’t sufficient enough to explain its use in this sentence. The author hasn’t stolen anything, has she? It is with the word contraband, we understand its use. Therefore, thief it a metaphor for her doing something inappropriate.

Reaction:

This quote expresses the feelings of susanna and her mother. It shows in how much pain they are with their life. This quotation describes how the mother was stating her daughter's pain. Daphne didn't want her daughter to know what agony was.
